Only con is manual should have been written by someone fluent in English. Small errors, but can be confusing for a beginner. PROs are many. You name it, this unit can do it. The record on 'Alarm and Motion only' is wonderful. You can pull up the log of when it alarmed and go to the individual alarm and watch what happened. My 'alarm' last night was a spider trying to spin a web over the camera. The WEB triggered the alarm. Get a good camera. Closeout cctv has several. Call and be sure you have everything, as their customer service is Super. If you have a defective ANYTHING they replace it. This is a great bargain at the price. The TWO cameras I have purchased at separate times work!! REALLY. If they do not have it, you do not need it. This place is Good !

Pretty good DVR for the money

This DVR has a lot of great features for its low price. I am disappointed with its Operator's Manual. It lacks necessary detail and, in one case, I found it completely incorrect. Make sure to turn off recording and motion detection on any unused camera positions to use alarm or motion detection on the active positions. Motion detection doesn't work with a black&white camera - I did not try motion detection with a color camera. The manual's description of the alarm inputs cite need for an active "voltage output" device to be connected, but after trial and error with such a device and them some investigation with a voltmeter, I found my external motion detector, with only a set of relay contacts, was the only thing that triggered correctly. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 only because of the poor quality of the manual and the frustration that came from not having adequate and correct information. Otherwise I am quite pleased with its operation now that I have it working.
